A Journey of Restoration
While we love the new construction that has come with the Birdsong Chapel and Carriage Hall, there is something so unique and special about the story that the Honeymoon House has to tell….
This journey of restoration has become one of our favorite stories to tell.
Its begins nearly 180 years ago with the Gurley Family. This farmhouse, built with a stone foundation and three large fireplaces, served as a wonderful home for many years.
At some point in time, the house was abandoned. But thanks to its old tin roof and boarded windows, the home remained in fairly good shape despite its rough-looking exterior.
It was in 2016 that our family bought the property and saw the beauty that the home had to offer.
In order to maximize functionality, we rearranged the layout of the home.
What was once the kitchen became a master suite. The back porch was converted to the master bathroom, completed with a walk-in closet and laundry area. The space that once served as the dining room was converted to an eat-in kitchen.
Beautiful ceramic tile was added to both bathrooms as well as the kitchen backsplash. We were also able to restore the original hardwood floors throughout most of the house, along with much of the original woodwork.
The beautiful wraparound front porch was given upgraded toungue-and-groove wood during the restoration process, which maintains the appearance of the original wood.
Through this time, our family fell in love with the history that fills every corner of the farmhouse. So much so, that once the home was fully restored, Brooke and Kenneth made it their first home!
We love to look back on all of the fun times and happy memories that our family has shared in this space. It gives us even more joy, knowing that we now get to share this beautiful piece of history with all of you!
When we began building the Cornealius Properties, we decided to name the home the Honeymoon House. What was once an old farmhouse, now serves as a beautiful bridal suite that is filled with love and laughter each weekend… and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
As we look back, it’s crazy to think how far this ‘little’ project has come, and we are so thankful for the opportunity our family has had to bring this piece of history back to life.
Next time you come to visit us, be sure to stop by the Honeymoon House to see all that it has to offer.
